Bio:
Dr. Dorion received a B.Sc. from St. Francis Xavier University in 1968 and a D.D.S. from McGill University in 1972. This founding member of the ABFO has served as President in 1985-86 and held various positions on the Ethics, Certification and Examination, Bitemark Evidence and Patterned Injury, Research Committee and contributed to many ABFO Bitemark Workshops in various capacity from evaluator to chair; he has held appointments/consultant to/lectured at the University of Montreal, Laval, and McGill, the Canadian Police College (RCMP), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Dental Task Force, (CPIC) Advisory Committee and the Child Abduction and Serial Killer Unit, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC) for Forensic Science, Crime Scene/Death Investigation Scientific Area Committee, Odontology Subcommittee, Bite mark Task Group. In 2002 he received an «Exceptional service in the public interest» award from the FBI director. In 2004 as assistant professor inaugurated the first forensic dentistry online course for McGill University’s Faculty of Dentistry and the Laboratoire des science judiciaries et de médecine légale, Ministry of Public Security for Quebec. He has served as Director of forensic dentistry for the latter beginning in 1973. He became a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences in 1975, Fellow in 1977, received the Distinguished Fellow award in 2002, the Lester Luntz Award in 2005 and the Reidar Sognnaes Award of Excellence in 2006, a member of the Board of Directors (2007-2010), the Executive Committee (2008-2009) and Vice-President (2014-15). He has held various posts with the Canadian Society of Forensic Science since 1972 including President in 1978-79 and Fellow in 1997. He is Fellow of l’Académie Dentaire du Québec, and the American College of Dentists. He was appointed Research Assistant Professor, Dept of Oral Diagnostic Sciences, School of Dental Medicine, SUNY at Buffalo in 2008. He has served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of the Canadian Society of Forensic Science, the Journal of the Canadian Dental Association, and Consultant to the Law Reform Commission of Canada. Dr. Dorion has researched, lectured and published extensively in forensic dentistry and edited the only stand-alone books on Bitemark Evidence [(Marcel Dekker (2005), and CRC Press (2nd ed., 2011)].
