Dr. Loomis received his dental degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1972. After completing a one year general practice residency with the U.S. Public Health Service at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, he spent two years on active duty with the Indian Health Service. He opened his general dental practice in his hometown of Albuquerque in 1975, which kept him busy until his retirement from clinical dentistry in 2002. He received his formal training in forensic odontology at AFIP and the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine and has been a forensic odontology consultant for the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1976. He is a fellow of the AAFS, a member of the ASFO, the founder and director of the New Mexico Mass Disaster Dental Identification Team and a member of the NDIR review panel. He is a forensic odontologist for DMORT Region 6, where he served as a team member during the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, hurricane Ike and the Joplin tornado. In 2004 he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Odontology. As well as his consultative and research work at OMI, he is forensic odontologist for the UNM Hospital Child Abuse Response Team and is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Pathology and Pediatrics the UNM School of Medicine. Dr. Loomis is married and has five children and seven grandchildren.
