Dr. Edgar W. (Ned) Turner, III graduated in 1975 from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Navy and during his career, completed a two-year residency in Comprehensive Dentistry at the National Naval Dental Center, Bethesda, MD. He received a Masters Degree in Health Sciences from George Washington University. Upon retirement from the Navy, Dr. Turner returned to his alma mater as an Associate Professor and Director of the Department of Operative Dentistry. He developed the first state approved course in Expanded Functions for Dental Auxiliaries and served as the course director for 7 years. He has published numerous research articles and continues to be actively involved in clinical and forensic research. Dr. Turner is a member of DMORT Region IV and participated in the identification of the victims of Hurricane Katrina. He has lectured extensively on a number of topics including Forensic Odonotology, Restorative Dentistry, Terrorism and Biologic and Chemical Weapons. Dr. Turner is a Master in the Academy of General Dentistry and has been recognized as a Fellow in the International College of Dentists. He continues to be a Consulting Scientist for the West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center, a position he has held since 1999. He and his wife Barbara are blessed with two sons and 5 grandchildren.
