The Civil Litigation Committee of the American Board of Forensic Odontology will present a Workshop on Expert Witness Testimony. The Workshop will be held in conjunction with the 2021 AAFS Meeting in Houston. It will be held all day Saturday, February 13, 2021, preceding the AAFS Meeting. Participants and Observers must have a DMD, DDS, or equivalent degree. If you are inexperienced, or if this is the first time you have taken this workshop, it is advantageous and recommended that you sign up as an observer. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. The ABFO reserves the right to limit the number of Participants and Observers to the Workshop.

The Workshop will accept both “Expert Witness” participants as well as observers. All attendees will have access to the case and all educational materials prior to the session and either participate or observe the Saturday mock trial session. The case presented at the Workshop will be a “Standard of Care” case. The educational materials will include presentations by experienced expert witnesses and advice on all aspects of expert witness preparation and forensic report writing. These presentations will cover pertinent topics such as guidelines for Expert Witnesses and relevant Standards of Care in Dentistry.

The participants will be required to submit a written forensic report on their findings in this assigned case as either a plaintiff or defense witness, which will be assigned at the time of the receipt of the case. The Saturday session will feature “testimony” by the “Expert Witness” participants in a mock trial format that includes a judge, jury, and trial lawyers. Lunch will be provided.
A certificate of attendance will be provided to all attendees for 25 accumulated hours of forensic education for reviewing the educational material and attendance a this Workshop. These hours are not PACE Program approved.

If you wish to attend the Workshop as either a participant or observer, please sign up using the ABFO store option on the Board website, If you would like additional information about the workshop, please contact Dr. Ann Norrlander by cell phone at 612.240.9929 or email:

“Cancellations/Refunds – Once an individual has registered for a Workshop (submitted payment), there will automatically be an administrative fee of $100 for any cancellation and/or request for a refund of fees paid. This amount will be subtracted from any fees paid. In addition, if 2 months have passed since the registration deadline (including early registration closeouts), the refund amount will be ½ of the fees paid less the administrative fee of $100. e.g. $400 registration fee – $100 administrative fee = $300/2 = $150. Any cancellations that occur in the year of the Workshop (January 1st or after), will receive no refund.”
