Dr. Sylvain Desranleau received his DMD degree in 1991 from the Dental Medicine Faculty of Laval University, Quebec, Canada, and practiced general dentistry for 21 years. In 2007, he completed his Certificate in Forensic Dentistry from McGill University and in 2016, a Microprogram in Law at the University of Montreal.
From 2009 to 2012, Dr. Desranleau was a member of the Disciplinary Board of the Quebec Order of Dentists. For 9 years, he has been employed as a forensic odontologist at the Laboratoire de sciences judiciaires et de médecine légale de Montréal, for the Ministry of Public Security of Quebec. During more than 8 years, he worked as a syndic leading different ethical and professional conduct investigations for the Quebec Order of Dentists.
Recently, he is back to private practice.
Dr. Desranleau is a Fellow of the Odontology Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Odontology.
He was deployed in the Filet IV Operational Unit of the Sûreté du Québec during the Lac Mégantic and Isle-Verte multiple fatality incidents. He is a team member of Kenyon International Emergency Services. He presented several research projects in Canada, USA, France and Morocco and is the author of publications notably in the Journal of Forensic Sciences. He also established an operational procedure for dental records recovery in unidentified or missing person cases, with the collaboration of the Quebec Coroner’s Office, the police forces and the Quebec Order of Dentists.
Dr. Desranleau plays the piano since the age of 5 years old. He has a training in classical music and is a composer and piano performer in his spare time.
