Dr. Kenney received his DDS in 1977 from Loyola, completing his postgraduate specialty in Pediatric Dentistry and an MS with the thesis topic of Orofacial Injuries in Child Abuse in 1979 from the same institution. He is Board Certified in both Pediatric Dentistry and Forensic Odontology (the only DDS with these Dual Boards). The attended his first course in forensic odontology at AFIP in 1976 and shortly thereafter joined ASFO. He became a member of IOFOS in 1978 and served as its Vice-President/Secretary from 1984-1987. In 1979 he returned to AFIP to take the Aerospace Pathology Course literally returning home to the Chicago DC-10 disaster. His continuing forensic education includes the Southwest Symposium on Forensic Dentistry, The Master’s Course in Death Investigation at St. Louis U. FBI Mass Disaster/Crime Scene Reconstruction, Mass Fatalities Response at FEMA’s NETC, AFIP Forensic Anthropology, US Army CILHI Advances in Human Identification, FBI Serial Murder Symposium, The Henry Williams (NYSP-BCI) Homicide Seminar, and ADA conferences on Mass Fatality and Child Abuse. In 1980 he joined AAFS and holds the rank of Fellow (1983). He was section representative to the Student Academy of AAFS from 1991-2001. Jack has participated in 8 major mass fatality incidents was a founding member of DMORT, and during the WTC/9-11 investigation was the primary odontology consultant to the National DMORT Commander. He was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Forensic Science Foundation in 2006 and served as Foundation Secretary and Vice Chair. In 2013 he was elected as the Director for the Odontology Section to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and also served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Forensic Sciences and the Journal of Forensic Identification. Jack was ABFO Certified in 1986 and served on the Board of Directors from 1990-1995 and 2000-2003. He was elected Treasurer in 1991, moving up in chairs to the office of President in 1995. He was again elected to the Executive Committee of ABFO and served as its president for a second term in 2006-2007. He served for five years as the odontology/child abuse consultant to the ADA Council on Dental Practice. He was the Chief Forensic Odontologist and Disaster ID Team Director for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office for 14 years, and a Deputy Coroner for the DuPage County Coroner’s office (2000-2013). He currently is a consultant for the Davidson County (TN) Medical Examiner's Office. Jack is one of three external dental consultants to the Joint POW-MIA Accounting Command Central Identification Laboratory (Ex CILHI), and has authored numerous book chapters and articles on forensic dentistry and the dental aspects of child abuse/domestic violence. He has lectured throughout the world, most recently in China and continues to speak at state and national dental meetings. He has completed hundreds of identification and bite mark cases, and testified over 100 times as an expert witness. Hobbies include fishing, model trains and travel.
