John Filippi is a native of Omaha, Nebraska and a second generation dentist. He received his dental degree from Creighton University’s School of Dentistry in 1980 and had a general dental practice in Omaha for 20 years. His professional activities are now devoted to forensics dentistry, including consultation and teaching. He also maintains an outside business interest in an investment brokerage firm. Dr. Filippi is a Fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), a member of the American Society of Forensic Odontology (ASFO), and received Diplomate status from the American Board of Forensic Odontology (ABFO) in 2006. He is co-founder of the Nebraska Dental Identification Team, and has been an Odontologist for the Federal USPH/NDMS/DMORT teams since 1991. He is currently the Team Training Officer for the DMORT, Region 7 Team. Dr. Filippi has been activated to assist with dental identifications on seven DMORT deployments, including Operation Katrina, The World Trade Center, and other airline mass fatality incidents and cemetery desecrations. Dr. Filippi has been the dental consultant for the Douglas County, Nebraska Coroner’s office since 1983, and teaches the forensic dental elective course at Creighton University’s School of Dentistry. He is qualified as an expert witness in Nebraska. Dr. Filippi has been married for twenty-six years to his wife Karen, and they have three children.
